Amelia Nowicki, Editor-in-Chief

Hi! My name is Amelia Nowicki and I am a senior at Grosse Pointe North High School. At North, I am Co Editor-in-Chief of the North Pointe, a cellist in Concert Orchestra, and a member of the varsity softball team. I am also a member of the National Honors Society and the High School Democrats of America. Outside of school, I have a job at the Big Salad and play travel softball year-round with Stealers Fastpitch 18u.
At home, I have two cats named Calvin and Hobbes, and I love "The Office” and listening to music. My favorite books are "We are the Ants" by Shaun David Hutchinson and "The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch, and my favorite movies are “Scott Pilgrim vs the World” and “La La Land.”

“AM” by the Arctic Monkeys (2013) has been one of my favorite albums since middle school, for a multitude of reasons, including the clever lyrics and iconic basslines. When I saw it at a records shop recently, I knew I had to buy it because not only is it a great album, but the actual CD is a sleek black design that reminds me of Tumblr and Blk. water… it was cool at the time, okay?

Many students, including senior Mia Cassar, believe that the impacts of Covid-19 on standardized testing and college admissions may not be confined to the 2020-2021 application year. “I think that (test-optional) might change the way that they look at college applications in regards to standardized tests in the future,” Cassar said.
