Before you read: On Jan. 12, Lolas taco bar opened in Grosse Pointe Woods. Owned by Michelin-star chef Brandon McRill, Lolas aims to serve fast-casual style Mexican food and drinks such as tacos, burritos, bowls, margaritas and beer. It sits quite close by at 20195 Mack Ave, and since it has opened, it has been quite popular among the local community.

Steak Trompo Taco: $5.50
With this being our first time going to Lolas Taco Bar, of course, we had to start with a taco. We got the Steak Trompo Taco, with steak, white onion, cilantro, and the main ingredient, which is the mole aioli sauce. It tasted earthy and smoky, which we enjoyed, but it overpowered the taste of the whole taco. We couldn’t really taste the seasonings from the meat or the added toppings. The lime also didn’t add much. While the taste itself wasn’t terrible, we were disappointed by the size of the taco. For the price of $5.50 for just one taco, it could be eaten in one or two bites, so a person may need to spend a lot more money to get full. This unfortunately left us unsatisfied, so we give this taco 3/5 stars.

Rotisserie Chicken Bowl: $12.00
The next thing we tried was the rotisserie chicken bowl. It was a salad with several vegetables, tortilla chips, guacamole, cilantro-lime dressing, and chicken. After getting a bite with everything on it, we realized that, similar to the taco, the chicken had a sauce that quickly overpowered everything else in the salad. Even with so many toppings, it was difficult to taste anything else. The best thing about it overall was the chicken, and both of us eventually found ourselves picking around the other toppings just to get to it. With all this in mind, we would rate it 2/5 stars.

Al Pastor Burrito: $11.00
This menu item was not the best size, considering the price. It was slightly smaller than a Chipotle burrito but about $1-2 more expensive. We were hoping this item was better than the last few we tried, but this burrito did not deliver. The pineapple in it overpowered almost everything else, like the pork trompo and orange mojo rice, and didn’t complement the flavors of any of the other ingredients. It was cold and dripping with pineapple juice, which made the experience even more unpleasant. None of it worked well together, and we could only take 2 bites before having to put it down. Overall, we would give this menu item 1/5 stars.
