White Christmas- Kate Kasuba
As the holiday season approaches, decorating my home in white Christmas decor gives me a sense of comfort. It reminds me of watching a Hallmark movie as the snow falls outside of my window. While still being my home, the sense of elegance that comes from a white Christmas gives me an expensive feel. Being a cohesive color, white goes with practically any Christmas decor and spirit.
White Christmas lights are the better option over rainbow lights as they are not as loud and obnoxious. I love how white Christmas lights provide a modern and clean look to Lakeshore Drive’s beautiful homes. They remind me of fun winter activities like skiing, when I arrive home during the holidays after skiing and seeing the decor match the snow outside. It gives me a sense of comfort and makes me feel organized while still having a rich, elegant feel to my home. I feel as though the lights resemble the snow and a magical Christmas. While rainbow lights are fun and exciting, white lights match Christmas’ beauty and elegant aesthetic. White Christmas is luxurious and looks expensive, as it ties into the maturity of growing up because it doesn’t feel as childish as the rainbow lights.
Seeing a beautifully lit Christmas tree with glowing white lights makes me happy inside, and I feel the beauty of Christmas time. While some may argue rainbow lights reveal nostalgia, I believe they can be tacky and don’t show the real spirit of Christmas. For example, I still feel the nostalgia of Christmas as I hang the old ornaments from my childhood on the tree, with the inclusive white lights wrapped around the branches without needing over-the-top rainbow lights. As Christmas approaches, white decorations for your house will resemble the elegance and memories of a white Christmas.
Rainbow Christmas- Katie McLeod
Christmas reminds me of family, comfort, childhood, and joy. The perfect Christmas tree is packed with rainbow lights, ugly homemade ornaments and stale candy canes. These things encapsulate the Christmas spirit and pull out nostalgic memories of the holiday season. The season’s beauty coincides with childhood innocence before cohesiveness and matching decorations were ever considered. Decorating your home and tree should be filled with laughs with family, not the stress of deciding how to place an ornament perfectly or what lights match your decor.
Rainbow lights and colorful classic Christmas decorations unleash festivity and comfort. When I go downstairs for a late-night snack in the weeks leading up to Christmas, the magical feeling of seeing my colorful, lit-up Christmas tree beside the mantel filled with stockings and red and green decorations encapsulates the incomparable joy of the Holidays. It reminds me of the countless old Christmas movies I watched as a kid, with the colorful, cozy decorations, and suddenly, the comfort of Christmas holds me tight.
Why stray from the original colors of Christmas that we know so well and replace them with a sterile, plain white Christmas? We need to keep rainbow Christmas alive so we do not lose sight of childhood memories, the innocence of the allure of colors, and the humbleness of the Holiday.
