Boys varsity cross country with Paul Stephens
As the varsity boys cross country team wraps up their season, junior Paul Stephens experienced both pride and joy throughout every practice and race. The team had many exciting races but also faced a few setbacks, however, these challenges did not stop the boys from achieving their goals of setting personal records and placing 8th overall in the all-region meet.
The boys experienced many injuries that caused hurdles in their times and personal records. However, the close-knit team of 18 runners continued to work hard by running and training daily.
“The main setbacks the team has faced this year are the injuries a number of runners have been getting,” Stephens said. “Sam Parish experienced a stress fracture early in the season, while a number of other runners have had aches and pains that have impacted their performances.”
Despite these difficulties, the team persevered. Their proudest moment was placing second as a team in the Dryden Cross Country Invitational. Their high hopes to succeed continued towards the end of the season as they met their expectations at the regional meet.
“This season, our team’s main goal is to place well at the region meet, and hopefully have a bunch of people PR,” Stephens said.
Girls varsity golf with Sofia Evola
The varsity girls golf team experienced a smooth course this season according to senior captain Sofia Evola. Through her leadership position, Evola has helped the team by being both a role model and an exceptional player for all her fellow teammates to follow. With many exciting matches, the girls had a positive end to their season.
With a team of 11 girls, the members have found that having a close bond with one another enhances their abilities on and off the course. Evola believes the team has worked hard this season to not only improve their skills with the golf club but their relationships as well.
“Our team goals this season were to get better at golf, have fun and get closer as a team,” Evola said.
As for any sports team, playing our cross-town rival is always exciting. For the varsity girls golf team this season Evola believes their performance was something to be proud of, because of an extra initiative to compete.
“We all get really excited to play South because it’s our rival school and I think it definitely brings us all together because we all get so competitive,” Evola said.
