When I first walked into Presley’s Kitchen, I was immediately drawn to their home-like environment. Presley’s Kitchen is a breakfast, lunch and dinner kitchen & bar located in Downtown Detroit at 1 Park Ave Ste. 101. Their hours of operation are from 7a.m.- 10p.m. on Monday-Thursday, 7a.m.-11p.m. on Friday, 8a.m.-11p.m. on Saturday and 8a.m.-9p.m. on Sunday. While students might discover this restaurant to be an excellent downtown option, its distance makes it impractical for breakfast or lunch on school days. The restaurant recommends making reservations during their busiest days, which are Thursday through Saturday. I went with my dad in the evening around 6:30p.m. and they were not very busy. When I walked into the restaurant, I soon realized why they call themselves a kitchen.
The restaurant has an open kitchen plan where you can see the chefs cooking through a window. Another thing that I can compliment about the restaurant is the way they balance fine dining with their open bar and kitchen format. Their service was great, everything came out quickly and they attended to everything my family and I needed — although that could have been attributed to the fact that it was very empty.
I started with one of their popular appetizers, the truffle fries. They were crispy, fresh and warm, and were served with ketchup and a homemade truffle butter which was really good and tasted akin to ranch. For the entree I decided to choose their house specialty, the PK Shrimp and Grits, which is traditionally a breakfast option but is often eaten for dinner. The grits were creamy and the shrimp was savory, and it was topped with chorizo which gave it a bit of spice. My dad decided to get the CBS Burger which is a patty that combines short rib, chuck and brisket which he really enjoyed. He said that the burger was cooked perfectly and the toasted brioche bun was soft and warm.
Now, Presley’s Kitchen is a great restaurant and has all the qualities of a five star rating, but for high schoolers, this restaurant may be above price range. For instance, their PK shrimp and grits, the house specialty, was $38, their truffle fries appetizer was $12 and their CBS burger was $22. After including drinks, tipping and taxes our bill was upwards of $80 for only two people. So as a forewarning you may want to bring mom or dad to cover the price damage. For these reasons I have given Presley’s kitchen a 4/5 star rating.
