Expertise expression at Harbinger Poetry Club

By participating in Harbinger Poetry Club’s weekly meetings, student’s can express themselves. Every Friday morning at 7:15 a.m., the Harbinger Poetry club meets in either B317 or B321 for students who are looking for a place to show off their creativity.

Upon entering the room during a meeting, you’ll hear the welcoming music playing from a speaker and you’ll see students hard at work, letting their creativity flow, making art from a category of their choice. You do not need to restrict yourself to one type of art to participate in the club, Maki stresses.

“We like to call it Harbinger Poetry Club but that doesn’t mean that it’s only for students who are interested in poetry,” Maki said. “It is for students who are interested in poetry, short story writing, art, any form of expression.”

Along with conveying your individuality through artwork, you can also join the club intending to make new friends and exchange your art.

“It’s a chance to get to know other people and you get to share your poetry and expression with others,” Maki said. “I think it’s a good opportunity for others to hear how creative others can be who are maybe in their class or they meet someone new that they haven’t met before.”

Harbinger Poetry Club is still hoping for more growth in the coming meetings. This year, the club has been seeing new faces each Friday morning, which is thrilling according to the club’s student leader, senior Sarah Westrick.

“We have such a large attendance this year, from the club being two people last year to now 13-17 kids this year is very special and insane,” Westrick said.
