If you are at school past the last bell, you may be lucky enough to run into one of our custodians, Carol Johnson, whose smile and kind words just may make your whole day. Not only does Johnson care for students by helping to keep our school clean, but she also cares for her family and friends. Johnson aims to support those around her like her family has always done for her.
Outside of work, Johnson spends a lot of her time taking care of her elderly cousin, who she sees as an inspirational figure in her life. She looks up to him, as well her sister, and has learned many lessons that she hopes to pass along to others. She continues to implement many of these lessons in her daily life, such as always being dedicated and passionate about what you do.
“I take care of my elderly cousin, he’s 91,” Johnson said. “He’s a vet and he’s retired now and I look up to them. They’ve always been hard working and go-getters.”
One way she takes care of her family is cooking for them, which Johnson is very passionate about. Cooking is something she does for her own enjoyment and rather than sticking with simple recipes, she enjoys keeping it interesting by switching things up and straying from the norms of cooking.
“I like variety,” Johnson said. “If I have chicken, I can’t just have it baked or fried. It has to be grilled, boiled, and something else with it. It has to be different. Switch it up.”
Not only does she spend lots of her free time enjoying her passion of cooking, Johnson also delights those around her with singing using her beautiful voice. Although she doesn’t get to use it as often now, she reminisces on the times she did.
“I can sing, well I used to,” Johnson said. “ I could sing really good. I like to sing.”
Johnson’s key to a joyful and fulfilling lifestyle is staying on the straight path and always doing the best thing for herself and others. Her positive energy radiates to everyone around her.
“Stay focused, stay on what you know, stay on your ground,” Johnson said. “I’m just a very giving caring person always doing something for somebody.”
