Varsity Soccer with Lorenzo Cavaliere
For senior captain Lorenzo Cavaliere, winning a state championship could become a possibility from the close-knit bond and work ethic of the team.
Being able to have fun while playing a game that he loves is something that Cavaliere doesn’t take for granted. This year’s easy-going team dynamic allows for deep bonds to emerge from the players as well as the coaches.
“I’d say that our team dynamic is as good as it can be, really,” Cavaliere said. “I feel like we are really close this season. Even with the coaches, and all of my teammates, we are all really close and we are all friends.”
This positive environment is open to anyone. According to Cavaliere, most recruits this season had little to no experience in the sport which helped improve the culture of the team.
“A bunch of our kids kind of joined the team this year, not really playing soccer before, so we became kind of more like friends instead of soccer teammates,” Cavaliere said. “I feel like that helps a lot because it’s not [as] serious as some of the other sports, which makes it a lot of fun.”
Varsity Volleyball with Leah Burney
After the graduation of many varsity players, the girls varsity volleyball team underwent many transitions this season. Without the previous upperclassmen, sophomore and second year varsity player Leah Burney, wishes to help fulfill these roles through hard work and bonding.
Finding inspiration from the graduating class of 2023, Burney plans to uplift and encourage her teammates in a similar way.
“I feel like we watched them really closely last year,” Burney said. “We saw how loud they were, we saw how they learned from our coach and I feel like we just try to do the same as they did.”
Through their comradery and team culture, Burney looks forward to what this season holds for them.
“I think we’ve only lost one game so far this season,” Burney said. “We’ve had a couple tournaments. We’ve done pretty good in tournaments, but I think that we are going to get a lot better.”
