Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia died at age 79 on Feb. 13, 2016, in Shafter, Texas. Appointed by Ronald Reagan in 1986, Scalia’s death brought controversy over whether President Obama or his successor should appoint the new justice. President Obama commented on the matter saying he will give his recommendation in “due time.” For more information on the former justice, check out CNN’s website.

2. Americans arrested in foreign country

Four U.S. citizens were arrested in Bahrain after entering the country using false information. The lone woman from the group was arrested in Sitra for “attacks on police” after participating in riots that marked the fifth anniversary of the 2011 Arab Springs-inspired uprising. Police apprehended the other three male travelers under the same pretenses at a security checkpoint. The U.S. Embassy in Bahrain was aware of the American’s presence and arrest, however, the group’s case will be handled by a Bahrain public prosecutor. To read more, click here.

After 50 years of trying and perfecting detection techniques, physicists have successfully confirmed the presence of gravitational waves, an idea proposed by Albert Einstein nearly 100 years ago.
