After taking a break from music for a few years, Solange Knowles comes back with a bang. Born in Texas, she has made the charts with her recent album “A Seat at the Table.” This is Knowles’ third album, following “Solo Star,” ”Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams” and 2012 EP(extended play), “True.”

“Don’t touch my hair” is one of the many empowering songs on the album.

This bop speaks the importance of loving natural hair and black women who feel ashamed of representing themselves by wearing these natural hairstyles. The lyrics “ Don’t touch my hair, when it’s the feelings I wear” are lush and makes those natural hair loving women out there feel proud to be who they are.

“Cranes in the Sky” is also one of those songs that anyone can relate to, no matter the color of your skin. This jam smacks you in the face with brooding feelings, but makes you feel good inside at the same time because of the crisp sound of the drums and hi-hat, and her smooth(but strong) voice.

Knowles includes a number of interludes in this album, all of them speaking on black and white culture.

“Mad” featuring artist Lil Wayne reflects on past relations between black and white culture and how black people get told to get over things like slavery or the terrible treatment they endured back then and today. It raises the question for the black community: Why aren’t I allowed to be mad?

This fluid album is an all-around masterpiece. It’s funky, groovy and flat-out real. It tells a powerful story, and every track is catchy. Give this album a listen.
