Current Apple App Store “editor’s choice” game Mr Jump is one of the more difficult obstacle jumping games on the market. Indie software studio 1Button is responsible for the creation of this predictably simple way to pass time. The app has experienced near overnight success, reaching over five million downloads after just four days on the App Store. It has also been featured as one of TIME’s 5 Best iPhone Games of the Week.

The game is a test of users’ focus and reflexes, making the minimalist design potentially misleading.

The objective of the game is to help a tiny blockhead character run through the level without falling to the bottom of the screen. The only way to control Mr Jump is by tapping – the longer the tap, the higher he jumps. Think Flappy Bird meets Mario: quick, easy controls take you through obstacle-ridden landscapes that increase in difficulty as you get better and unlock new levels: warning, may trigger deja vu.

Basically, the game is not a valuable addition the App Store. It is identical to every other game that you run and jump over stuff in. That’s it. Run and jump, run and jump.

The game currently boasts 12 levels, with more on the way. Just like every other run-and-jump game, prospective users can get Mr Jump for free on the App Store.
