Like father like son

Coaching is nothing new for freshman football coach Jason Hill, who has coached 14 years and counting. However, it’s a new experience having his son freshman Tyler Hill on his football team.
“It’s not really different. I don’t think that as a coach I can look at it as him being my son. I think I have to look at it as him being another player,” Jason said. “Obviously sometimes that’s hard to do, and at times I’m probably harder on him than I am some of the other guys, but I guess I make my best attempt at just trying to treat him like the other players, not as my son.”
Jason also played football in high school.
“I played at Marysville High School, and I played varsity for three years in 1992 through 1994,” Jason said. “Where I went to high school, football was a really big deal.”
Although this is his first time coaching Tyler in football, having his son on the team isn’t an entirely new experience.
“I’ve coached him quite a bit for baseball and some other sports, basketball too,” Jason said.
This season is Tyler’s second year playing football, and he’s learning his father’s expectations of the team.
“I played in seventh grade, and that has been my only year up until now,” Tyler said. “I haven’t had him coach me in football before, so it’s really serious, but I’m so used to the same old stuff.”
