  1. World leaders attend climate change meeting

About 150 world leaders are attending the meeting that will focus on a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions. The meeting is being held in Paris and three major carbon-emitting countries, the U.S., China, and India, are present. Recent riots and protests in Paris have sparked many security concerns, affecting the whole event. Click here to learn more.

 

  1. Agreement reached between EU and Turkey

Both Turkey and the European Union (EU) have agreed to limit the refugee flow. By doing this, Turkey will receive 3 billion euros ($3.17 billion) and political concessions in return. Under the deal, Turkish citizens will be able to travel without a visa in Europe’s Schengen Zone, which is a passport-free region comprised of 26 European countries . Read more from BBC here.

 

  1.  Kobe Bryant will retire

After the end of the season, Lakers National Basketball Association (NBA) all-star Kobe Bryant will head for his retirement after receiving five NBA titles. This is Bryant’s 20th season since he was drafted onto the team in 1996. His impressive skills have worn him down and he says it’s his body’s time to say goodbye. Read more about this issue here.

 

  1. Colorado Springs shooting

Three people were killed and nine injured during the shooting, which took place on Nov. 27 at a Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood. President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Vicki Cowart believes gunman Robert Lewis Dear was motivated to attack because of his disagreement with abortion, however the Colorado Springs police are still trying to figure out Dear’s motive.  Click here to find out more about this event.

 

  1. Threat at the University of Chicago

On Nov. 29 a threat made by student Jabari Dean canceled all classes and closed the University of Chicago campus. The threat stated that 16 white male students or staff would be killed in vengeance of the shooting of black male Laquan McDonald. Read more from USA Today here.
