1. EgyptAir hijacker arrested

Following a standoff between hostages, the hijacker of EgyptAir flight MS181 was arrested by officials. The hijacker directed a flight that was routed to fly from Alexandria to Cairo to Cyprus’s Larnaca International Airport. The hijacker was identified as Seif Eldin Mustafa, and was fitted with an explosive belt that was later deemed to be fake. Mustafa had initially released the passengers but barred the pilot, his copilot, a flight attendant, a security guard and three passengers from exiting. 2. Donald Trump’s campaign manager charged with battery

Corey Lewandowski was arrested and charged with misdemeanor of a female reporter from Breitbart News. Lewandowski had initially turned himself into the police. Now, ex-Breitbart News reporter Michelle Fields resigned from her position citing a lack of support from her employer. For more information on this event, click here.

3. Bribery charges placed against 13 Detroit principals

On Tuesday, thirteen former and current Detroit Public school system officials were charged with bribery cases. At the center of this illegal activity stands Norman Shy, owner of Allstate Sales. Shy would yield fraudulent invoices for school supplies that were approved by the principals. He would later deliver some, but not all of the said items. He was paid $5 million in total from the school system, and officials believe more than half of that amount is fraudulent. The bribery has allegedly been occurring since 2002 and ended in January of 2015. Read more about it on CNN.com.

4. FBI cracks San Bernardino terrorist’s iPhone without Apple’s help

With the help of a third party, law enforcement officials were able to break into the phone used by Syed Farook, the San Bernardino terrorist. The judge who presided over the court case postponed the hearing after the FBI presented information that an extraneous party had volunteered to hack the phone. Following that, the U.S. Department of Justice has dropped the case against Apple since they no longer require the company’s assistance. Read more about it here.

5. Actress Patty Duke dies at age 69

Academy award recipient and mental health advocate Patty Duke died today from sepsis from a ruptured intestine. In 1962, Duke was the youngest person to win an Oscar at the age of 16, which she received for reprising the role of Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker. She also served as the president of the Screen Actors Guild for three years. After being diagnosed with bipolar disorder at age 38, she devoted most of her time advocating for mental health issues.
