The varsity football team emerged victorious against St. Clair last night, ending the game with a 14-7 win.

The team ended their first offensive drive with a successful touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Bjorn Bjornson to senior wide receiver Tristan Richardson. An accurate field goal attempt gave the team a seven-point lead. The Norsemen held off St. Clair through the end of the first half, but weren’t able to grow their lead until later in the game.

The Norsemen ended their first offensive rush of the second half with a 54-yard touchdown pass to junior Ryan Mazzola. While St. Clair was able to get onto the scoreboard with a successful touchdown and field goal attempt, they weren’t able to make up the Norsemen’s lead.

Senior running back Latorris Greer rushed over 300 yards, and was vital to the team’s offensive prowess. While they came out with a win, the team was hindered by penalties.

“I think we played fine, we were up and down the field all night,” head coach Frank Sumbera said.

The team ended their regular season play as the co-champions of their league with a record of 5-4.

“We played well and we came out with a win … it was a good season overall, I couldn’t ask for anything else,” team captain Markael Butler said.

However, the team’s shot at a playoff slot is undetermined.

“We just have to wait and see. It’s all up to the computer now,” Sumbera said.

Playoff spots are determined by a points system, and this year’s lineup will be announced tomorrow night.
