Follow up with Bjorn Bjornsson
October 9, 2015
In the midst of the North-South game excitement, sophomore and starting quarterback Bjorn Bjornsson was knocked down in the heart of a play.
“We were running a play where I had a boot leg out. I came off the line and
started running out,” Bjornsson, said. “Right as I turned my shoulders, the guy from South was there, and he just got me. I landed on my back and banged the back of my head on the turf.”
Bjornsson experienced a headache, and his left leg felt numb. Even so, he walked off the field on his own, not requiring a hospital visit. By the time he got home, both his head and leg felt better.
Around the same time last year, he suffered from an actual concussion while playing football.
“That one was a lot more severe,” Bjornsson said. “Last time I actually had one, and this time I didn’t.”
As an athlete, he feels that getting hurt is something that players should be aware of when joining a sport.
“You’re putting your body at risk in the game,” Bjornsson said. “You just really need to see the fact that it’s a full-contact sport and that you can’t be scared. If you do get hurt, you have to fight through it and get back on the field.”
