On Thursday, Oct. 22, the boys varsity soccer team fell to the De La Salle Pilots with a final score of 3-1 during their second playoff game at Hazel Park. Sophomore Tommy Kohler believes that although his team lost, the game could have had a different result.

“I felt that my team gave it our all. We worked hard up until the the final whistle was blown,” he said. “If we could’ve capitalized on our chances, I think the game would have had a different outcome.”

Coached by math teacher Eric Vanston and assistant coach Olivia Stander, the team won their first playoff game against East Detroit High School, which ended in a mercy with a score of 8-0.

Because of tonight’s loss, the team was eliminated from the district playoffs, concluding their season. However, Kohler feels it was a strong season and with more practice, the team could have better results in upcoming years.

“It was a tough season but also the most fun,” he said. “Next year we have to start training earlier in the season so we can perform better.”

Kohler believes the team was lead by the upperclassmen. One person in particular who stood out was Tommy’s cousin, junior Jack Kohler, who scored North’s lone goal.

“I had a blast playing,” Tommy said. “I’m going to miss the seniors a lot. I love these guys.”
