The Blue Dolphin combined North/Grosse Pointe South synchronized swim team competed in the first of two state meets this season on Friday, Jan. 31. The meet was against Troy, Ann Arbor Huron and Ann Arbor Pioneer high schools. The Blue Dolphins were able to come in second place, with a final score of 56 points.

The competition was for figures, which take up the first half of the synchronized swim season. There are four different categories for figures, “A-D”, with A being the easiest. Each category has two moves that the swimmer must master, and each girl is in the category that her skill level is best represented by.

For A figures, four Dolphins were able to claim the top four places. For B figures, no Dolphins were able to place. For C figures: the two Dolphins in this category were able to claim third and fourth place. For D figures, the two Dolphins in this category were able to claim fourth and seventh place.

“It was a great step forward for our synchro team,” junior C figure Karyn Schwartz said. “I’m proud of all the new swimmers on the team who dominated the A division.”

The Dolphins will have their second state meet, this time for routines, in late February.
