The varsity girls’ field hockey team fell to Dearborn at North’s home field tonight with a final score of 1-0, and the junior varsity team overcame Dearborn to win with a close score of 1-0. The games finish the both teams’ regular seasons, making varsity’s final record 5-6 as they head into their playoff run.

“We could’ve played better, but as a team we really stepped it up in the second half,” co-captain Elaina Emig said, “our goalie Sophie O’Hara had a great game.”

Last week’s game against Edsel Ford started out slow as well but the team’s defense progressed in the second half with more blocked shots on goal. However, the girls couldn’t overcome Edsel Ford and they lost with a final score of 1-0.

“The team is playing well. They’re improving week-to-week, which is important,” varsity co-coach Paula Cornwall said. “They enjoy playing and they enjoy being together. It’s a nice group of girls.”

The varsity field hockey team is currently ranked sixth in Division II standings. They are playing their first playoff game against Dearborn at North on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

The team must beat Dearborn to progress through the single-elimination playoffs.
