When the guitarist, drummer and bassist of The Naked l came out in their matching greaser/indie style adorned with everything from tight denim to fedoras, it was easy to mistake jersey-wearing lead singer Dakota Ringer as their tech man.

This style clashing, however, seemed to fit the eclectic sound of this San Diego student band.

Put together by San Diego State sophomore and lead singer Ringer, The Naked I has been a year-long rock haven for these four musicians.

As like most primitive bands, their sound is still a bit rough around the edges, but the charm and charisma of these boys will entice listeners to stick around for the set.  The band in this short time jumps from original reggae to pop covers to blues, all of which should be appreciated more for the effort than the execution.

The drummer, Nico Bluffin, takes over the tiny venue with an army of percussion, unfortunately stomping out the lyrical clarity of the vocals as well. This can be somewhat made up for by intense guitar solos from lead guitarist TJ Fucella, but not complretely. The bassist, Michael Beeson, is a newly found replacement member of the band, but blends in seamlessly.

With more experience, the technically trained Southern California natives have the ability to improve, but unless time is taken to better establish their sound, the band will eventually flounder.
