The NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams have been a part of the beauty community since 2011. They were a new product, since liquid lipsticks were very uncommon. Today, they are still a popular product, and makeup subscription boxes are still using them. Ipsy carried these lip creams in 5 shades for the month of April. Retailing at $6.50, the price is very competitive for a matte liquid lipstick. The product is sold in 46 shades, covering nudes, reds, pinks, browns and even some bolder colors like ‘Havana,’ a purple with blue undertones. The lip creams are a more affordable version of liquid lipsticks.

The formula itself is very quick-drying, which can be both a good or a bad thing. Keeping your lips moisturized before applying this is a major tip to avoid any cracks. The term ‘lip cream’ is absolutely appropriate and fitting for this product, considering the thickness of the lipstick. It goes on like a cream would, and isn’t drying to the lips, unlike other matte lipsticks. It is transfer-proof, and is long wearing. The pigmentation is fairly strong too. The lip creams also have a very distinct, sweet smell, which is a bonus.

The lip cream swatches however, are very different than the shade on the tube. A recommendation would be to look at a few swatches or test the color out before purchasing it. The lip creams also aren’t very good with food, reapplication is usually needed. The product can also go on streaky sometimes. Applying it horizontally and then going over it vertically is a simple solution.

Considering the price point and comparing it to the quality, the product is definitely worth it. It is a cheaper alternative to some higher-end lip products. NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams are sold at Sephora, Ulta, Target and Walmart.
