North students and faculty gather for the first basketball game against crosstown rival, South.

The boys varsity basketball team defended their home court. Though the game started rough, their displayed persistence, endurance and solid defense earned them the “W”.

The game ended 57-49 North in the North gymnasium.

In the beginning the South boys took the lead. North’s passes were there but the baskets were not dropping.

North senior Jacob Zacharias admits that the intensity and the rebounding was lacking from his team.

“To come out flat in the rivalry game like that was kind of scary and got me worried,” Zacharias said.  “But I think because of that fear of losing we picked it up.”

After they warmed up and digged in on defense during the first quarter, the team came back ending with a score of 26-24 at halftime.

Zacharias, who led the team with 18 points, came out and made two consecutive three-pointers, a definite crowd pleaser.  From there, South was only able to tie the game 48-48 for a brief time period, but were never able to regain their lead.
