The boys cross country team went 8-6 in the MAC Red and finished second in the district race this year. The team was able to take first place in the Algonac invitational, third at the Oxford invitational and finished fifth in Wayne County. The team was able to achieve their number one goal of qualifying for the state meet by placing third in their regional race.

“My favorite moment was at first, we weren’t sure if we had qualified for states at the region meet,” head coach Diane Montgomery said. “They thought they maybe finished fourth because we didn’t make it last year by a few points. They were disappointed at first because they thought they didn’t qualify as a team, but then they were really happy when I told them they finished third.”

Both Montgomery and sophomore Will Hofmann said the key to the team’s success was the chemistry they had.

“As a team, I think we worked really well together because I know we had a special bond from last year because we were all on the varsity team last year as well,” Hofmann said.

Going into next year, the team looks to keep up the success as five of the seven varsity runners will return.

“Going into next season I feel like we’re set up to do really well because we have two seniors leaving but we have two sophomores that can take their place,” Hoffmann said. “And if we all put in a great deal of work over the summer, then we can have an awesome season together.”
