North Pointe Now

Hi, I’m Kristina Kowalski, a freshman at Grosse Pointe North High School, and a new staff member to the North Pointe. From preschool all the way to eighth grade I attended St. Joan of Arc. (Catholic school) I did enjoy the great education I received from my teachers there, but the switch to public school was somewhat of a relief to me! The friendships I have made at North are numerous. I feel like entering a public school really opened my eyes to all different cultures and ways of life, beyond those of private school.

During my seventh and eighth grade years at SJA (St. Joan of Arc) I volunteered to write for the news section of the school’s paper. The great experience I had writing for my parochial school’s newspaper drew me to join the North Pointe staff. As weeks and then months passed, I realized being a North Pointe staff member was not as complex as I once thought it was. I also realized that my past story-writing experience helped, but that it was nowhere near enough experience to prepare me for such high standards North Pointe exceeded. Being on the staff meant much more skill and personal responsibility than I was ever used to while writing for SJA’s newspaper Despite all of these components, I have discovered my strengths and weaknesses as a writer, and grown from my past experience.
