Undefeated in the Macomb Athletic Conference Quiz Bowl League with a record of 17 to 0, North’s Quiz Bowl team is on its way for competition at a national level.

Due to the team’s efforts at the state championship, the only team that could beat them was the eventual champion Detroit Catholic Central through a double elimination tournament.

The Quiz Bowl will be represented for the first time in the National All Star Academic Tournament in Ohio in June, and because of co-captain Harris Bunker’s dominant performance at the state level, he will serve as a member of a four-student contingent of high school students from Michigan.

During these competitions, speed is just as essential as correctness, as teams compete with one another for the quickest response in both collaborative and individual events. The questions are primarily academic and cover core subjects from math and science to art and literature.

Coach Jonathan Byrne says the team’s strength and success comes from the player’s efforts in individually specializing on certain topics to compliment each other’s strengths.
