Grosse Pointe is known for its many workout centers like LA Fitness, Next Level Fitness and Full Lotus. The recently built Neighborhood Club (NC) facility is open to all paying members and has many rooms and classes such as a pool, a basketball court and numerous workout rooms. NC provides six wellness programs set in place to work on physique and nutrition.

An experimental class was set up by wellness program instructor Sarah Foster to help the people who like yoga but may need extra support. Yoga at the Wall is set up with up to ten participants and they do yoga against a wall for back support. This helps them build balance until their muscles and nervous systems are developed enough to do the poses standing.

Instructor Marijke Janeway is hopeful that this class will become a regular feature. She is excited to teach a class that allows a more diverse audience to experience yoga.

“It is only four sessions. Two were in February and two in March. It is part of the sixty day “Get In Shape” program. It is not a new permanent class,” Janeway said. “Wall yoga is a wonderful way for people who need to strengthen muscle groups and have trouble in traditional yoga on the floor.”
