  1. Hurricane Matthew reaches Haiti

    Haiti’s southern peninsula was hit by 45 miles per hour winds this week. As a result, Hurricane Matthew was classified as a category four hurricane. It’s estimated to dump around 15-25 inches of rain on average, but can reach up to 40 inches. Matthew has killed at least three people: one in Haiti, Colombia and St. Vincent. It isn’t known when it will hit the United States, but is forecasted to hit Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas later this week. To read more about the story, click here.

  2. Clinton’s polling lead over Trump increases

    Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s lead in the presidential race has widened after she was declared the winner after the first presidential debate by many sources. In a CNN survey, 47 percent of the respondents backed Clinton, 42 percent favored Trump seven percent supported Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson and two percent supported Jill Stein of the Green Party.   3. Vice Presidential debate coming up on Tuesday night

    As the race up The Hill heats up, the Vice Presidents will debate in Longwood, Virginia and features Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R) and Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine (D). In what could possibly be the most important night in their political careers, each candidate doesn’t have to focus on just supporting himself, but also their respective presidential candidate.   4. British researchers win Nobel Prize for physics

    David Thouless, Duncan M. Haldane and Michael Kosterlitz won the Nobel Prize for physics for their theoretical discoveries on exotic states of matter. They used advanced mathematical methods to study unusual matter like superconductors, superfluids and thin magnetic films. Their work could help pave the way for advances in life-altering technology like quantum computers. Click here to read more about their research.

  5. End of MLB’s regular season, start of post-season

    As another MLB season winds down, the playoff race came down to the last game with the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles clinching the American League wild-card game while the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets face each other in the National League wild-card game. Toronto and New York will host the wild-card games and the winners will advance to the American League and National League post-seasons. The Texas Rangers will play the winner of the AL wild-card game while the Chicago Cubs will play the winner of the NL wild card game. The Cleveland Indians and the Boston Red Sox will play in the ALDS and the NLDS matchup is the Washington Nationals against Los Angeles Dodgers.
