1. Zika virus spreads

The Zika virus spreading through mosquitoes is connected to thousands of cases of brain damage in Brazilian babies. The World Health Organization has predicted the virus will spread to most countries in the Americas. As a result President Obama is taking action by implementing a series of free tests and vaccines. 2. Last GOP Debate

FOX News and Google co-hosted the last Republican debate on Thursday, Jan. 28. Thursday’s debate attracted attention because of front-runner Donald Trump’s absence. He backed up his statement with his belief that one of the moderators, Megyn Kelly, was biased toward other candidates during FOX News’ last debate, which was held on Aug. 6, 2015. After his refusal to attend, FOX News reached out to Trump hoping to get him back on stage. To read more about the debate, click here.

 

3. Man arrested in Disneyland Paris

Authorities arrested a man in possession of multiple handguns and a copy of the Koran at the Disneyland Paris amusement park on Jan. 28. The 28-year-old was caught outside the New York hotel, which is a part of the park, and has not been identified by authorities. Police are still searching for a woman accomplice. 4. Rihanna releases album

Rihanna’s eighth studio album, ANTI, is now for sale. The 13-song collection is exclusively available on Tidal, a music streaming service Rihanna owns stake in. The album currently has 1 million downloads. The superstar released her single “Work,” featuring rapper Drake, hours before the release of ANTI. Click here to listen to the album.

 

5. European countries handle migrant crisis

After numerous terrorist attacks in the past year, European countries began to realize that stricter policies are necessary to ensure the safety of citizens. Germany is tightening asylum guidelines and blocking immigrants from obtaining citizenship for family members. Meanwhile, Sweden and Finland plan on deporting immigrants from the Middle East region.
