While his stage name may be Neozz, most recognize senior Jacob Rees as just another student.  Rees has been interested in music since elementary school, and he pursues his passion by creating his own electronic dance music.

“I love music … I make the melodies, the structure of the song in a way that I like, so it sounds how I want it to sound,” Rees said. “I could say it (makes) me feel better about myself.”

Rees has created six songs over the course of this year, in a variety of electronic dance music styles. They all fall under the umbrella of exhilarating, unmetered dance music.

As Rees began his compositions, he started thinking about pursuing music as a career. Mark Rees, Jacob’s father, has encouraged Jacob to follow his passion.

“I believe that Jacob will be successful in the music industry, making music and helping others to make music as well. It has given him direction at an early stage of his life,” Mark said via email. “Engaging in your passion is a true key to happiness in life, if not a key to success.”

Music has been an influential part of Rees’ life, taking hold as early as the elementary Mozart videos he watched as a kid, to training in piano and violin throughout primary school, to electronic dance music today.

“I think it’s affected my life a lot because it’s created who I am,” Jacob said. “If I didn’t have music, I don’t think I would be where I am right now. Honestly, before this, I had no idea what I wanted to do as a career … I don’t even know if I didn’t have music in my life what I would even do.”
